Scam Alert From Department of Financial Services

According to the DFS, scammers identifying themselves as department representatives are calling consumers regarding a credit union or bank “case” being “prosecuted” by the DFS against the consumer. The fraudsters—who also sometimes identify themselves as working for the Office of the Inspector General—then request personal information from the consumer.

The DFS is reminding consumers that the department does not prosecute court cases against consumers and does not represent banks or credit unions. Consumers who feel they have been targeted by scammers can file a complaint by visiting the DFS website, or calling the DFS Consumer Hotline at (800) 342-3736.
